Eid-ul-Fitr is almost here, and if you're like me, it's probably biryani that comes to mind first! However, Eid is more than that – it's a festival that marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting and prayer.
During Ramadan, Muslims across the world fast from dawn to dusk and spend the nights in prayer. It's probably due to this that lanterns and lights are a major feature during this month and in Islamic art and architecture. While most mosques are shut now, people have retreated to their homes for prayer. Many people decorate their homes with lanterns, fairy lights, and candles to mark the special nights of prayer, and the overall look is heavenly!
So we thought it's only fitting to celebrate the end of the month of fasting and prayer with a simple yet elegant DIY Easy Eid Mubarak Card for kids. This card is super easy to make and requires only colored paper and card stock. So even if you're under lockdown and don't have access to craft supplies, you can make this with whatever you have at home. A perfect last-minute Eid card idea!

Supplies required to make Eid Mubarak Card:
- Colored craft papers
- Plain Card stock
- Craft glue
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Gel pen
How to make the Easy Eid Mubarak Card for kids:
1. Download and print the lantern template. There are two lantern shapes, along with strips and decorative shapes. Cut out the different shapes.
2. Choose colored craft papers for the lantern patterns. Trace the lantern patterns on the selected craft papers. You can use any color, but it's better to trace the thin hexagon and octagon patterns on yellow craft paper as these will be the lights of the lanterns.
3. Start with assembling the lanterns. Attach the 2 thin strips along the top and bottom sides of the lanterns, so that they form a square in the center of the lantern.
4. Stick the decorative pieces in the center, connecting the two strips. Make as many lanterns as you like.
5. Get your card stock to make the card. Fold it in half to make a card shape.
6. Stick the paper lanterns on the front of the card. Arrange them at different heights to add some interest.
7. Use a gel pen to draw lantern strings across the top end of the card and down towards the lanterns.
8. That's it! Now go ahead and make as many cards as you like, using different colored lanterns.
What do you write on an Eid card?
To wish someone ahappy Eid al-Adha, you can simply say "Eid Mubarak ", which means you are wishing them a "blessed Eid."
you could also write
Have a peaceful and happyRamadan!
Wishing you a very HappyEid
Isn't this super easy? I love how you can customize the cards by using just one lantern or by changing the lantern positions.
Why are lanterns important in Ramadan?
For Muslims, there is a special tradition that involves beautiful lanterns that are set aglow with candles or oils, creating beautiful patterns of light and color through the night. If you travel to the Middle East during Ramadan, you will find these lanterns hanging in bazaars, in front of homes, restaurants, and hotels.
This is a great card to go with your Eid gift, especially if it's handmade. If you want another Eid card idea, check out our crescent Eid card which is just as easy to make.
